Limassol Marina bursts into sparkling light
Kickstarting the festive season with a dazzling Christmas lighting ceremony
Limassol Marina celebrated the beginning of the most festive season of the year with a dazzling Christmas lighting ceremony in the presence of thousands of people at the Marina’s Square on Saturday 26th November. Switching on the sparkling lights of its much-loved 12m high Christmas tree and bursting the whole project into sparkling lights, families and friends had the opportunity to experience the magic of “Christmas on the sea” and create unforgettable memories with their loved ones.

After two years of absence due to the pandemic, this year’s Christmas on the sea created an unpresented delightful atmosphere of joy and happiness, elevating the wintery festive feel of the occasion! Accompanied by the Limassol’s Mayor, Mr Nicos Nicolaides who marked the official beginning of Christmas by switching on the lights, a snow-covered Marina adorned with gorgeous decorations and its sparkling lights transforming the area into a dreamy scenery. During the event, Limassol Marina’s General Manager, Mr Nikiforos Pampakas, also mentioned “It is with a great pleasure and excitement we organise our Christmas on the sea after two years of wait and we are deeply emotional for the large number of people who visited us tonight. We would like to thank you very much for that and we wish you to have the most amazing Christmas with health and happiness”.

As part of the unique event’s set-up, all the visitors had the opportunity to experience various Christmas activities and festive shows which enhanced in the joyful spirit. An interactive arts and craft workshop for children by Aphi Creative Space, a brilliant dance performance from The Ballet House by Marina Paraskeva, and a repertoire of beautiful Christmas tunes and carols by the Eliconas School of Music, Diastasi Children’s Choir, and Christina Averkiou and her band, lured all the people into the Christmas spirit, creating the ultimate festive atmosphere. The arrival of Santa Claus in his antique car was an especially cheerful part of the event, made even more special by his sharing of gifts and love as he drove across Limassol Marina, while children had the chance to photograph with him in a specifically designed area which was dedicated to him for that purpose.

A philanthropic Christmas market in support of the Funraising Charity Foundation was also held, during which visitors indulged in some Christmas shopping, with a beautiful selection of holiday decorations, accessories, jewellery, and many more crafted items available to purchase. Volunteers added to the warm Christmas cheer, making warm mulled wine and toasty chestnuts to raise funds for the Foundation.

Christmas on the sea will include various events and activities until the end of year at Limassol Marina, so stay tuned for more updates and announcements the next days.
