The international “Ioannideia Regatta” is the biggest water sports event of its kind in Cyprus and returns to Limassol for the 5thconsecutive year, taking place from 28th August to 8th September 2019. Organised by Famagusta Nautical Club and hosted at Limassol Marina, Ioannideia 2019 aims to build on its international popularity and success that has been established year on year, with a variety of shore-side activities and water-sports, culminating in the ORC sanctioned offshore sailing regatta taking place on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th of September off the Limassol coastline.
A series of competitions make up the regatta programme, including open water swimming races, canoe/kayak races, Optimist dingy regatta and the main offshore sailing regatta with both the ORC Challenge Trophy and the Andreas Ioannides Trophy up for grabs to the participants across the entry classes. The prize giving ceremony will take place at Famagusta Nautical Club on the evening of Sunday 8th September 2019, following conclusions of the weekend’s adrenaline-fuelled racing on the water.
All proceeds of the regatta are donated to the Andreas Ioannides Scholarship Foundation for athletes with financial needs who are enrolled in college. The Ioannideia Regatta is held under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, and is supported by its partners Limassol Marina, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, Limassol and Yermasoyeia Municipalities, RIK, AHK, CYTA, CTC, Pizza Hut, TopPro, ONEK (National Betting Authority), Krypto Securities, IronFX, and the Cyprus Sport Authority.
