Cyprus Coastal Regatta 2025 concludes with great success

Cyprus Coastal Regatta 2025 concludes with great success image

Date

6th May 2025

Cyprus’s prestigious nautical event set a new standard in the world of yacht racing

It was an amazing day, filled with the buzz of adrenaline and the joy of being out in the open waters of the Mediterranean. The first-ever Cyprus Coastal Regatta brought together captains and crew from around the world, eager to participate in what is set to be an island-wide annual tradition of international, long-distance yacht racing.

Organised by Limassol Marina and Ayia Napa Marina, this dynamic sailing competition took place on Thursday 1st May, starting from Limassol Marina at 10:00. 31 teams from five racing classes began their route that ended at Ayia Napa Marina, with three intermediate virtual gates at Zygi Marina, Perivolia, and the Dhekelia Power Station. The racing vessels were a sight to behold as they made their way across the azure waters; a real treat for every sailing enthusiast who was either participating or beaming from the sidelines.

Each category had three winners, with a total of 15 prizes awarded. These were:

  • Line Honors: NireasL (1st place), Typhoon (2nd place), and Demixa (3rd place).
  • ORC Class A category: Typhoon (1st place), First Light (2nd place), and Almira (3rd place).
  • ORC Class B category: Argonaftis (1st place), Legendary (2nd place), and Arribata (3rd place).
  • Cruising Class A category: Le Momon (1st place), Celeste (2nd place), and Bardo (3rd place)
  • Cruising Class B category: Stramba (1st place), Meltemi (2nd place), and Foam (3rd place).

The lively prize-giving ceremony was held on 2nd May at Ayia Napa Marina, with speeches by Mr. Costas Fitiris, Chief Marina Officer of Ayia Napa Marina, Mr. Nikiforos Pampakas, General Manager of Limassol Marina and Mr. Stavros Caramondanis, President of the Cyprus Marinas Association.

The mood was jubilant and everyone – from winners to participants and spectators – rejoiced over the success of an event that placed Cyprus firmly on the international yacht racing map and made excited plans for the next Cyprus Coastal Regatta.

The main goal of the Cyprus Coastal Regatta is to strengthen local sailing, while also laying the groundwork for a future international event. In its initial phase, the Regatta primarily targets local sailors but envisions evolving into a globally recognised event starting from Latchi and ending in Famagusta District, covering the island’s entire free coastline. The Cyprus Coastal Regatta is not just a top-tier sailing event, but also a significant step toward enhancing cooperation between marinas and promoting Cyprus as a premier sailing destination.
