Limassol Marina’s General Manager speaks at Marbella Sustainability Event.

When it comes to protecting and preserving its ‘Blue Space,’ Limassol Marina leads by example, with cutting-edge environmental initiatives and award-winning sustainability practices. It is with great pride, therefore, that our General Manager, Mr. Nikiforos Pampakas was invited to speak about these practices at a recent event held by Puerto Banús, ‘Marbella: Sustainability in Mediterranean Marinas.’

The event was held in Málaga on October 21st, with the aim of promoting and fostering dialogue around the role of luxury Mediterranean marinas as leaders in transforming the port sector into spaces of high ecological quality that respect biodiversity. Mr. Pampakas, who attended the event virtually, spoke at a session which analysed the experiences, strategies, and actions of luxury marinas in the Mediterranean. 

Mr. Pampakas described Limassol Marina’s sustainable design, which is inspired by Cyprus’s rich cultural heritage and includes technologies such as Seaflex mooring systems, integrated waste management, and surface run-off filtration, as well as smart technology which enhances efficiency and guest experience.

In addition, he also spoke about the Marina’s sustainability initiatives – from community engagement and educational exhibitions to extensive solar energy generation. All these initiatives have ultimately led to Limassol Marina receiving numerous awards and accreditations, including 5 Gold Anchor Platinum accreditation, Blue Flag accreditation, and more. 

The successful event acted as a starting point, where the experience of Puerto Banús, together with collaboration from the other participating ports, could lay the foundation for a replicable model of regenerative ports—where biodiversity, science, and sustainability are fundamental pillars of port management and economic development across the Mediterranean region. Limassol Marina is proud to have played a crucial role in this important conversation.
